At the beginning of December 2011 I was asked to do Costume Design for Opera Fayetteville's Inaugural performance of Little Women. My first reaction was to cringe and politely decline, seeing as I had a six month old at home and still have a part time day job. Something inside me struggled to the surface though and I thought to myself, "I have always 'made it work' no matter the constraints." (If only I had Tim Gunn as my mentor!) So I agreed and thus began weeks of pure craziness. I scrambled to get all 20 SINGERS MEASUREMENTS sent to me and I began gathering, purchasing materials, sewing every night after my son would go to sleep until very late. All around I became pretty zombie like. Luckily I had the budget to pick out and rent the men's costumes from a premiere costume rental company. I did not have any time to tailor suits, that is for sure.

It seems like months ago but only last Thursday (January 5th) was I able to do fittings before the dress rehearsal the next day! I made all those necessary changes the next day and I got their costumes to them. Somehow, I pulled through. I had my lovely friend Summer come help do a few alterations and help construct a small bolero jacket for me but other than that I was a one woman operation. I was proud to be a part of this budding company's first production and hope to help out in the future. I will put up more pictures in the gallery section of the site soon.
